Arrow Escape

Slide every arrow off the board. Spinners rotate, gates open and close, and walls block the way, so the order of your moves matters.

The Problem

Many arrow puzzles stay the same from the first level to the last: tap whatever is free and the board clears itself. Players who enjoy a real brain teaser want a puzzle where the board changes with every move and planning ahead is the whole game.

The Solution

Arrow Escape is a puzzle game where every arrow can only leave the board in the direction its head points. If anything blocks its path, it crashes and you lose a heart. What makes it different is that the board reacts to your moves. Spinners turn, gates switch state, and walls seal off exits, so the right order changes after every arrow that leaves. Every level is built backwards from a real solution, so every level can be solved. There is no timer, and getting stuck costs nothing: you can undo or restart and try another order.

Key Features

Spinners (from level 21) are one-cell arrows that turn 90 degrees clockwise every time any arrow leaves, so you have to count turns to know when their path is clear. Gates (from level 41) switch between closed and open with every exit, so an arrow can only pass through on the right move. Walls (from level 61) sit on the edge of the board and stop anything from flying out, so a spinner facing a wall has to wait for its next turn. From level 80, every 10th level is a boss level that combines spinners, gates, and walls on one board. Each new piece gets five gentle teaching levels before it gets tough. Players get hearts and hints that scale with difficulty, and earn up to three stars per level: lose a heart or use undo and a star is lost. Stars unlock the Ocean, Sand, Berry, and Midnight themes, and a high contrast theme is always free.

Technical Details

Arrow Escape is built with plain HTML, Tailwind CSS for a responsive layout, and vanilla JavaScript for the game logic. It is a Progressive Web App (PWA), so it works offline and can be installed on your device like a native app. Levels are generated backwards from a valid solution, which guarantees every level can be solved, even with spinners, gates, and walls interacting on the same board.

Impact

Arrow Escape turns a simple tap-to-clear idea into a game about timing and planning. Spinners, gates, and walls each add a new kind of thinking, and boss levels combine all three, so the puzzle keeps getting deeper instead of just bigger. It works offline, so you can play anywhere.
